# HDRI

HDRI maps are a powerful way to light scenes and add realistic reflections. Every project in Vectary comes with a default [HDRI environment](/documentation/design-process/environment.md) that provides basic lighting by default. You can choose from a range of HDRI maps available in the [built-in library](/documentation/design-process/libraries/environments-library.md) via the Environment settings, or import a custom HDRI file. However, keep in mind that HDRI maps can dramatically increase project size — especially when imported in high resolution.

#### Tips & recommendations

* **Check file size before importing** – HDRI files, particularly custom ones, can be very large. Always verify the file size and consider optimizing before upload.<br>

* **Reduce resolution if possible** – HDRI resolution has a direct impact on its file size. If your scene doesn’t rely on fine background detail, consider using a lower resolution HDRI to reduce load times.\
  HDRI resolution can be adjusted directly in Studio — in the Environment settings.\

* **Use compression** – when exporting or preparing HDRI files, consider using **DWAA** or **DWAB** compression. These methods can significantly reduce file size without major visual loss.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.vectary.com/documentation/sharing-exporting-embedding/optimizing-a-shared-project/hdri.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
